December 18, 2020

We hope that everyone has a glorious holiday break with their families!  Please stay healthy and enjoy a much needed vacation.  The first week back after the break will be virtual for all children. We look forward to seeing many of you back inside Ellis on January 11th.  We will be staying on our current schedule in January.  Those children that are in the building will receive grade level lessons live with social distance.  We are certain that the new hybrid model will take time to adjust to.  We will keep you all abreast of changes that need to happen as needed.

Thank you to all that have already signed up to provide items on the wish list.  There are still  items that we could use to support our return to school.  Here is the link to the sign up.

Wish List

Georgia PTA is excited to once again team up with Scholastic Books to offer our members an amazing benefit to support reading and literacy for our youngest readers.  Bookflix ® is an online reading resource that provides access to over 100 fiction, animated stories along with a paired non-fiction book.  Many titles are offered in both English and Spanish.  This resource is designed to help pre-K – 3rd graders become independent readers. Books are divided into the following categories:

  • Animals and Nature

  • Earth and sky

  • People and places

  • ABCs and 123s

  • Family and community

  • Music and Rhyme

  • Adventure

  • Celebrations

  • Imagination

These books are narrated aloud (often my famous celebrities) with words highlighted to build word recognition and include interactive games to build vocabulary.

With schools closed over the breaks and many libraries also inaccessible, Georgia PTA and Scholastic want to provide this member benefit so our youngest readers can keep building their literacy skills until they return to school.

Please enjoy this amazing benefit and thank you for being a PTA member!

Boosterthon Dance Fit:

PTA has been distributing FREE t-shirts to students and teachers for our upcoming Boosterthon Dance Fit fundraiser. This year will be a virtual event, but students will have a daily Zoom call with their favorite Booster-teammates, earn prizes for gathering pledges, and have a rocking good time as they dance, dance, dance (a partnership with Just Dance). Please register your child and share the link with friends and family. Registration is open now! We’ll have the official Kick-off on January 8, and Dance Fit will be held January 20. This is our largest fundraiser and helps fund teacher and student grants!

Foxes and Bears

The children have been completing amazing work
and their interactions during lessons have been
wonderful!  We are continually impressed by their eagerness for advanced work.  This week we will be continuing with lessons.   Please remember to send an excuse any day that your child is unable to attend lessons or work on the platform.  On Thursday we will be focusing on snowflakes and your children will need to have several pieces of square white paper available along with a pair of scissors.  Third year students will be starting work with measuring angles.  They will need to have a protractor for follow up work this week.  On Friday we will celebrate the end of the first semester with Pajama Day!  Your child is welcome to wear their pajamas throughout the entire day!  We will also have a special reading of The Polar Express at read aloud in the afternoon on Friday.

Please remember to drive by the school this Saturday or Sunday (12-2 pm) to pick up your FREE student Boosterthon t-shirt, popsicles and Virtual Festival of Lights info.

If you are interested in gifting items for the classroom this holiday season you can find our classroom wishlist here.  There are several items included that will make our transition into the hybrid learning model both successful and safe.
