Sept. 26

Fox and Bear Community

Students enjoyed creating their own versions of Vincent Van Gogh's paintings after a lesson on his works during our weekly Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS.)

We are continuing our space studies and will begin learning about the constellations next week. We have had a lot of conversations with students about the importance of work completion, and students are responding positively with great enthusiasm for achieving their learning goals. Thank you for your support at home.

Fox and Bear Community

September is flying by! We've had a busy few weeks full of lessons, birthday celebrations, and an emphasis on work completion and work plans now that we're six weeks into the school year. Please make it a point at home to ask your student what they worked on that day or what they plan to work on in the morning. The expectation is that students complete at least four works each day Tuesdays through Fridays.

We have been studying the solar system with integrated writing, language, and cultural lessons that involve this topic. Students have enjoyed learning about the planets, writing about living on the space station for a year, and designing their own rocket ships.

Stay tuned for information on clubs and conferences in October.

Class Needs:
- Paper Towels
- Coffee Filters
- Gallon-size Ziplock Bags

Reminder:
Please keep toys at home. They are a distraction at school.

Important Dates:
Sept. 25: PTA Spirit Night at Chipotle
Sept. 27: Donation Dress Down Day
Sept. 27: Deadline to purchase/return school photos

Have a great week, Foxes & Bears!

Sept. 9, 2024

Fox and Bear Community

We are picking up the pace of our lessons, and new students are becoming more familiar with using their workplans. The workplan is a way for students to track their work that is completed and checked by an adult. Students should aim to complete 4 works a day on Tuesdays through Fridays: a writing, language, math, and cultural work. This is a process for our younger students, but we want them to understand the expectation. Mondays are Explorations Days when the students rotate between music, P.E., Spanish/Art, and Tech/Engineering. We don't have a Montessori work period on Mondays.

October Conferences: We look forward to conducting conferences in October. A sign-up schedule will be forthcoming.

Friday Clubs: Students voted today on their top choices for Friday club activities. We hope to start these in the next few weeks. Thank you to those of you who volunteered. If you have availability between 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm on Fridays and would like to assist with crafts, games, origami, music, or something else, please let us know.

Farming Project: Our second graders are participating in a semester-long project in the garden growing potatoes. Each Friday, they will work with Ms. Angie and volunteers from the UGA Master Gardner program. We are excited for them to share what they learn and experience with the rest of the community.

Important Dates:

Sept. 25: PTA spirit night at Chipotle

Sept. 27: Donation Dress Down Day for $1

Sept. 27: Deadline to purchase/return school photos

Have a great week!
