The class has begun the study of animals on the tree of life! This is the largest group of living beings. Each week we will be exploring a different kingdom of animals. Next week we will also begin an in-depth study and celebration of black historical figures. Please assist your child in exploring the Black History section of the cultural plans.
Please note that Ms. Jess and Ms. Kirsten hold office hour from 7:30-8:30 each morning!
This is a time for both students and parents to come in with questions, ask for assistance with work or we can also help students plan their days, or just chat. We are happy to see those that take advantage of this time. This coming week we are going to try something new. At 1:30 we would like to see the first grade students for a skill review session. If all goes well, we will add a session for other levels as well.
We are also trying something new with our Number of the Week. Students will find a link in the announcements on Monday to Google slides. They should have it opened when entering Morning Meeting. They should find their slide (each is labeled with a name) and begin working on answering. If some prefer to continue to use paper, that is fine. We will go over the answers together after a few minutes.
Please assist children in having work materials available when in group time and/or during lessons. These materials should include paper, pencils, crayons or colored pencils, scissors, glue, and a ruler. A box can easily hold these items for ease of organization. We have one student that uses a tackle box and it works really well!
The children have completed their i-ready assessments and they will now start on their learning paths! The paths are made specifically for each child to focus on their strengths and areas of needed growth. Your child will need to work 3 times a week for 30 minutes to see the full spectrum of expected growth. Do not hesitate to contact us if you or your child have any questions about the program or need assistance in logging in.
I wish to inform you that I have reached out to the district office to secure a substitute teacher for Spanish. You may have experienced some interruption to the normal schedule, due to Ms. Colleen’s absence. I am working with the World Languages department to secure for our adolescents someone that can also facilitate Spanish 1, which is a high school credit course. I will let you know when we have a substitute in place. I ask for your patience and compassion at this time, as Ms. Colleen and her family deal with a family emergency.
Peace, Ms. Tanya
